DRAWINGS 2008
There are two groups of drawings shown on this website: children on patterned surfaces and individual art students making their drawings. Both groups have a strong emphasis on observation. I watch and examine the subjects fully connecting them with my experience of being a child and an art student and also my contemporary association of being a mother and teacher. While observing and creating the drawings I assimilate the information I see and it becomes filtered through rational and irrational thought. For me it is an interesting process of collecting information and using it to create art.
The children are drawn on floral patterns from rugs, bedspreads or linoleum. Many of the same concerns such as beauty, fragility and intimacy from the "Orchid Paintings" are carried over here. They are like the stage for the figure to exist in.
